Carnations

The Carnation is a popular
flowering plant that has been grown for thousands of years. Because of
extensive cultivation, it is now available in many colors including white,
yellow and red. Its original color was light pink.
The name Carnation is thought
to come from the word 'coronation' since it was one of the flowers used in
Greek ceremonial crowns. Another theory is that the name comes from the
Latin word 'carnis' which means flesh since it originally had a pinkish
color.
Carnations have much
sentimental value. They are worn on Mother's Day and at weddings for
example. They express love, fascination and distinction.
