Lilies

There are about 100 different
species of lilies. They are an important and popular plant in gardening
and a staple of Easter celebrations. The bulbs of the plant are even
edible and are grown on a large scale in China as a health food. They are
said to be able to lower the internal body temperature and become popular
over the hot summer months in China.
In North America, Lilies will
grow in southern Canada and most of the United States. They are
predominately a deciduous plant which means it sheds its foliage at the
end of the growing season. They flower during the summer months and the
flowers form at the top of a single stem.
